Mary Norwood’s Race Politics

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , , , , on October 21, 2009 by marcg

Mary Norwood is a white candidate for mayor of Atlanta, a city that elected the last white mayor in 1970, almost forty years ago. The one thing the election is not short on is pretense. We field negros are supposed to be pretending that race has nothing to do with any of this. With anything, in fact. Barack Obama is president of a white majority Amurka. Norwood can be mayor a Black majority ATL. See? No difference.

The New York Times reports today that Atlanta may see its first white mayor in more than a generation in Mary Norwood. The article is accompanied by many empty-headed slogans, from Black mouths of course, about it meaning nothing for a politician’s race to be Black. This is a slick move that distracts from the point of their article which is discussing a white mayor. Not meaning as much, or anything at all as some would say, that a mayor be Black is a very different thing than having a white mayor. Inductive reasoning perhaps is not required to become a Times writer. Or maybe the ability to manipulate faulty induction to build an upside down argument IS a prerequisite.

Mary Norwood Aims To Take Back Atlanta

Mary Norwood comes from Buckhead the whitest and richest white neighborhood in Atlanta. The political pundits who get their salaries paid by the advertising dollars flowing out of Buckhead won’t talk about her background much. And if you go looking for details and background info over at her Wiki page you’ll be left wanting. These are coincidences.

Anyone familiar with US politics beyond the superficial coding understands the role played by race and that there is a communication grid that operates just beneath the surface of all political talk. As a good auto mechanic would say, Norwood’s recent ad is hitting on all cylinders. As racist as this country and city are it is not your father’s racism and Norwood’s team understands it can’t win the mayor’s office yelling nigger. The operative phrases are crime, accountability and public safety. That’s nigger, 2009 style.

  • Crime is out of control = Black field negros are out of control. Of course with the implication that she will, finally, do some controlling.
  • City Hall is run poorly = Black politicians are corrupt. Duh. Of course they are. And who do they work for? The white men that graduated Emory with Norwood.
  • Everyone should be able to feel safe = White folks and house negros, it’s okay for you to come back into the city. Things are in good hands. Again. Kathryn Johnston types fiend for yourselves.

To be sure, all of the major candidates for mayor of Atlanta are business lackeys. And I don’t advocate for any of them but I do understand the particular threat posed by Mary Norwood, 1) she will give new confidence to white racism and white supremacy and 2) the increased difficulty field negros will have in protecting our civil liberties under a white mayor that does point 1.

Even Atlanta’s white progressives (whatever that means to them) are showing their true colors. The very first time a white mayor is viable in four decades, they are getting behind that campaign. Which doesn’t do much besides illustrate clearly to others what we already knew. When it comes down to it a white that calls himself liberal isn’t much different than a white that calls himself conservative. When it really comes down to it. He or she might not call me a nigger even behind closed doors but she’ll vote with the people who do.

If things keep moving in the direction we’re told they’re moving in (Norwood is supposedly the frontrunner) Black ATL will get to understand this truism up close and personal. And whites will get to turn the ATL back into Atlanta.

Obama Shuts Down Pittsburgh For His Rich Friends

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , on September 8, 2009 by marcg

If China were banning train service into one of its cities in preparation for the G20 in order to limit public speech and dissent what would the US press say? The same racist and xenophobic garbage they always come up with in relation to China. Of course nothing when Obama does it? Obamamaniacs will say Obama didn’t do it, Amtrak did it. Or the mayor of Pittsburgh. Or the governor or whatever. Orders like this come from the top. Perhaps as ’suggestions’.

Kennesaw State University and Corra Harris

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , on July 16, 2009 by marcg

Corra Harris was a white supremacist. Read her 1899 letter to the editor of the Independent defending the lynching of Sam Hose and, if nothing else, that is clear. But it isn’t 1899. It’s 2009 and we all know that the Earth rotates around the sun and viruses are real (we can see them under microscopes). But still in 2009 whites don’t think, still don’t think, that the white terrorism and attempted genocide of Black southerners is a big deal. Those who do think what happened was and still is a big deal are called ‘racists’, ‘politically correct’ and other slanders in what should be termed the new 21st century vernacular of white supremacists. This is the terrain upon which the battle over the memory of Corra Harris is being waged.

The story goes that this started when Kennesaw State University was approached and offered this land in 2008 by DeKalb County businessman Jodie Hill. But that story doesn’t really make much sense. Remember, 2008 was the year of the real estate and mortgage industry meltdown. Thus starting with the offer by Hill to KSU is prolly more than a little bit dishonest. It’s difficult to know the real deal because KSU isn’t fessin up on all it knows and what it knows is likely just half the story. There are serious questions that haven’t been answered. And some haven’t even been asked.

  • Hill is attempting to liquidate this asset now-why?
  • Hill is being credited for a three million dollar donation to KSU. How much could Hill have gotten in the private sector for this undeveloped 56 acres in the middle of the subprime meltdown? Three million? Haha.
  • Were all professional and familial conflicts of interest between KSU and Hill disclosed before the deal was done?
  • Does the contract between Hill and KSU stipulate that the Cora Harris landmarks must be maintained by KSU?
  • Is it ethical for an institution serving Black and white students to maintain a memorial for a Jim Crow white supremacist?

These are a few questions that need to have a public forum. And not the public forum administered, faciliated and controlled by the KSU president but a forum with the KSU administration, faculty, staff, students as well as community-at-large present and controlled democratically. A democratic forum would be controlled and faciliated democratically, meaning by students, staff and community members primarily, with administration and faculty playing a minor role in line with their representation.

This hasn’t happened and that is part of the reason key questions haven’t been asked or answered. None of this even begins to deal with the moral and political problems raised by this situation. Problems and issues like this need to be dealt with in order for this land deal to be understood properly but it’s also larger than this piece of land. Whites tend to refer to problems in this realm as ‘racial’ problems. But this doesn’t accurately describe what we’re dealing with. The problem is white supremacy. When we don’t understand or acknowledge that our chances of moving forward narrow considerably.

As we prepare for the opening of the 09-10 academic year, we shouldn’t hope for genuine participatory dialog with all the aforementioned constituencies. It can happen but unfortunately hope won’t do it. We have to organize it. Then and only then will we see real questions asked, real answers provided and finally some light shed on actual machinations of this racist land deal.

Stress Tests Are Complete Joke; Market Optimism ‘Delusional’

It is most important to note that during this news interview the Bloomberg news anchor doesn’t challenge any of the facts presented. Only the analysts perspective. Sorta like what the Obamamaniacs respond with when he is criticized.

“Don’t be so cynical!”

Analysts Kirby Daley makes Bloomberg News unhappy by explaining why they and every analyst they have brought on has been lying through their teeth. A careful watching of the video reveals just how fundamentally corrupt the financial system and its paid guns, the corporate news anchors and analysts are. Daley is no leftist. He is advising his clients to get in and make a little quick money during what he calls this ‘manufactured’ market rise but then to GET OUT because it is not at all real.

The Bloomberg analysts, Bernard “Bernie” Lo tries to remain composed but is visibly uncomfortable with Daley’s presentation.

Ideology vs Pragmatism vs you and me: The US Supreme Court

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , on May 4, 2009 by marcg

Sonia SotomayorWith the pending retirement of US Supreme Court Associate Justice David Souter, a predictable media mini-circus (swine flu is the current circus) is opening up over it. Names are floated alongsides particular interests or so-called identity groups that would benefit or ‘like to see’ a certain candidate nominated. Care seems to be being taken to ensure it reads like every other very typical political script. A Latina is by definition progressive and will ’satisfy’ Latin people, feminists and racial progressives generally. Specifically, Sonia Sotomayor is the Latina being suggested  as a likely Obama nominee. I will assume that since her name is appearing in major media that the Obama administration has suggested she is a frontrunner (it might be true or they might be trying to appear progressive according to the script).

Ethnic media outlet New America Media (NAM) is pushing the idea positively apparently for the simple reason that Sotomayor is of Puerto Rican descent, something we all should find highly dubious ever since that poor Black kid from Pin Point, Georgia arrived on the court almost 20 years ago and has voted with the right wing ever since. NAM supports the nomination writing that

Naming a Hispanic would soothe frayed nerves among Latino leaders

and approvingly of Sotomayor,

She is not an ideologue but has a pragmatic streak

I don’t think the NAM perspective is an isolated one. That pragmatism can be divorced from ideology is a curious notion. A pragmatic or practical way of looking at things within a highly ideological and extreme political context means that you aren’t interested in rocking the boat but going along to get along. I try to imagine a pragmatist in Stalin’s Russia, Hitler’s Germany or Benito Mussolini’s Italy. What does pragmatism mean in a country that leads the largest global wealth divide in human history? What does pragmatism look like in a country waging two imperialist hot wars and dozens of cold and covert wars? What is pragmatism in a country where children hide in the woods while their mothers and fathers are kidnapped off their jobs and ‘detained’? How to be pragmatic in a judicial system that imprisons five times as many Black men proportionally than did South Africa under apartheid? What does pragmatism look like on a court that last year ruled that it was okay for evidence obtained from an illegal arrest to be used against me? What is this non-ideological pragmatism? And is it what people of color need today? No less, should we consider it a victory if that is what we end up with on the Supreme Court? I can hardly think so. If Sotomayor or any pragmatic person of color ends up on the US Supreme Court, should Brown, Black, Red, and Yellow people celebrate?

Obama and the forces he represents (and those that still find themselves supporting him and those forces) would like to frame ideology as something to be avoided, as an obstacle to getting things done in Washington. In reality, extreme neoliberal ideology is behind everything that happens in DC and throughout most of this country. All the while claiming to be everything but ideological.

A Brown/Black/Red/Yellow, non-ideologue is the perfect tool of confusion for Obama and the billionaires whose interests he represents. Obama, of course is a perfect example of this kind of tool. As he gives millionaires and billionaires billions and trillions of dollars he is simultaneously juxtaposed next to Martin Luther King and Malcolm X on t-shirts. If that’s not confusion, nothing is.

To be clear, Sonia Sotomayor isn’t personally the problem. It’s just that under imperialism, to rise as high as she or Obama or anyone like them, you have to be pragmatic. You have to go along with the empire to get along with the empire. You have to be pragmatic.

We don’t need an appointee from Obama. We need a movement opposing the policies of Obama who watches while autoworkers get kicked out of their jobs and unto the streets of Detroit but trips over himself rushing to back trillions of dollars in loans to white guys that are already rich. We need a movement of revolutionary reality supplanting the hypnotic support of Barack Obama. We need it yesterday.

So no to Sotomayor, no to all appointees from the rich who make our lives miserable to begin with. They are the ones killing us, don’t count on them saving us.

Hillary Clinton Won The Election

Posted in Uncategorized on December 14, 2008 by marcg

The public relations nature of everything in the US makes it difficult to discuss much anything with any intelligence.  For everything there is the official line, the perspective of the ruling class,  and then there are the varied perspectives of regular folks.  The same goes for the election that occured on November 4th.  The official line is that change came to the US with the election of the first Black president of the United States.  The official line is, like everything else, bullshit.  Hillary Clinton won the election.

There are several ways in which to understand that last sentence.  I’ll look at a few of them.  Some, are more relevant than others.  I’ll start with the least relevant and work up.

The LA Times performs a cursory examiniation of the president-elect’s administrative selections and with a single page of observations, reflections and quotes reaches a breathtaking conclusion-Obama’s picks, many of them, already worked in the White House for the Clintons.   Is this change, the LA Times asks.  How do you make the wordpress eyeroll emoticon?  Obama’s picks are center and center-right.  Just like the Clintons.  No, not just like the Clintons.  They are the Clintons.  Who won the election?

At the beginning of the 2 year campaign for the presidency, Obama was branded (yes, he’s a brand) as the antiwar candidate.  After he garnered the Democratic nomination he became the war candidate, promising to increase troop levels in Afghanistan and becoming predictably vague about Iraq withdrawal.  In this way, he moved even to the right of Hillary Clinton’s preconvention candidacy but surely right in line with his pimp, Wall Street.  Who won the election?

Finally, the notion that there was any real diffference between any of the candidates deemed serious by the corporations (that means all of the major tv, radio and newspapers of this country) was bullshit that in any other country would have been obvious.  But in the Public Relations States of America, nothing is obvious until a white model holding a microphone blesses it and proclaims it truth.    Barack Obama is a plant.  His candidacy and fake win were engineered by the same people that make the news every night for this country.  Quick thought experiements can help make this more plain.

People are convinced Obama stands in opposition to the interests that have dominated this country since it began.  This is silly.  If he stands in opposition to him then they stand in opposition to him.  If they oppose him, why didn’t they trot out the Jeremiah Wright story/scandal before Obama had any momentum.  Would a no name Black man with the middle name of Hussein have ever gotten traction in a presidential race if the Jeremiah Wright story had hit the headlines a month after he announced his candidacy?  To ask the question is to answer it.   They allowed him to be strong enough to withstand the attacks they had to bring to make the whole thing believable to audiences on the right and the left.  Obama was going to be president but conservative and liberal audiences had to frst be treated with the racial freak show this society is famous for and that its citizens (and non-citizens) have come to expect.  Obama was a made man from the start.

The official line?  Hope.  Change.  Whatever.  It’s all bullshit.  The only serious questio is how long it will be before the offiicial line disintegrates.  It will.  It must.  Malcolm said, America is a prison.   This remains true.  But it is a prison with a public relations budget just as large as the prison budget.  So a situation is created in which very few outside of those actually experiencing the reality of the society understand what the society is.  A country full of Dorothys who can’t see the man  behind the curtain.  Who don’t believe that man or the curtain, are real.  The notion that a curtain even exists or that anyone might be behind it orchestrating anything, is a conspiracy theory.  The domain of fools.

Who won the election?

Believe them?  Or your own eyes?

To Be An American

Posted in Spoken Word, Uncategorized with tags , , on January 29, 2008 by marcg

To be an American is a complex equation rarely scrutinized and often taken for granted. You can live and breathe on the landmass called the contiguous 48 states plus Hawaii, Alaska and Puerto Rico and still not be an American. There are rules you must know and follow. I should emphasize the word follow because even if you don’t know the rules you can follow them, something many if not most Americans accomplish daily. To be an American,

  1. you must believe that the people of this country, the corporations and the govt have the same interest and are all ‘America’.
  2. you must believe that no matter what, America is essentially good.
  3. you must believe the US of A is, was or will one day soon be great.
  4. you must feel that the theft of this land from the native population is something that happened a long time ago and is no longer a big deal.
  5. you must understand that race is something that used to be a big problem during slavery and has since been pretty much taken care of.
  6. you must believe that anyone that doesn’t believe the aforementioned is playing the race card and a racist him/herself.
  7. you must believe that heterosexuality is natural if you aren’t hetero, something bad must have happened to you in the past.
  8. you must believe that while America is good there are others out there that hate America. They are bad.
  9. you must believe those that hate America do so because of jealousy or some other irrational motive. This is important. Those that hate America never have a legitimate reason to do so due to #2.
  10. you must trust the govt.
  11. you must believe that being a member of the Armed Forces is ’service’ to ‘your country’ and that that is an inherently holy thing, never to be spoken ill of.
  12. you must adopt a white normative perspective on the world.
  13. you must adopt a heteronormative perspective on the world.
  14. you must believe in God.
  15. you must believe God is a man and that he is white.
  16. you must believe, irregardless of your personal or community economic condition that references to the booming condition of ‘the economy’ mean you.
  17. you must believe that Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, George Washington, Alexander Hamilton or any white male that can loosely be construed as a Founder, was a ‘great man’.
  18. you must like or pretend to like baseball.
  19. you must watch the SuperBowl.
  20. you must be a Republican or a Democrat.
  21. you must believe in the American Dream.
  22. you must recite the pledge of allegiance.
  23. you must believe that the United States of America is a place where anyone can ‘make it’ if he or she tries hard enough.
  24. you must believe that if he/she isn’t successful it is because of his/her own doing.

Some of these things are hard and fast rules. Fall short and you are out of the club. Others are softer and will allow for 2 or 3 cumulative infractions before expulsion. Either way, whether you violate one of the commandments like belief in God or one of the slightly less stringent rules like being a Republican or a Democrat, once you’re out, you’re out. Not to worry. If for one or more of these reasons you’re not an American, you won’t go nameless. There is a status reserved for you.

Anti-American.

US Auto Industry Terrified By The Nano

Posted in Uncategorized on January 13, 2008 by marcg

Under the guise of ecological disaster, the auto industries news outlets are creating a good deal of negative buzz to counter the announcement of India’s Tata auto manufacturer of their new low cost product, the Nano.  It is slated to hit the roads this year at the low price point of $2500.  The manufacturer, Tata, is the same company trying to purchase LandRover and Jaguar right now.  Clearly making big moves, US and European industry aren’t pulling any punches as they attempt to cool global reception or at least Western middle and upper class reception to the Asian automaker’s moves.  The Washington Post isn’t being shy in letting us know the implications of this new low cost car, headlining ‘It Could Mean Global Disaster’.  Not stopping with the excited headline, inside the story,

If millions of Indians and Chinese get to have their own cars, the planet is doomed. Suddenly, the cute little Nano starts to look a lot less winning.

First customer service, now this.  Those damned Asians.  They won’t stop until they destroy the planet.   One wouldn’t know from all the ads for gas guzzlers found within the Post that they were so concerned about auto exhaust causing climate change.  Glad they’re on our side.

The attempt to extort the Tata and Indian industry generally is an even nastier story.  For a look at 21st century racism, search “Tata, Landrover” and read how the West is not ready to buy LandRovers and Jags from Indians or how The Orient Express won’t let Indians in their business either, concerned about how they would detrimentally affect image.  I wonder what the papers are suggesting Americans think the Indian executives are going to do?  Smear hummus in the Jag engines?  More likely, they are hoping to up the ante and use the negative press across the board to extort more money out of Indian companies generally while doing what the white establishment has done best for the past few centuries, stoke racism.

If Indian industry is so shoddy as to not deserve to have these white brands, how did Indian companies financially position themselves to buy them to begin with?  Excuse me for asking.

White Progressive Politics

An email just in from Democracy For America:

Dear DFA Member,

Watch The REAL Rudy video from DFA's friends at Brave New Films

Why is Rudy Giuliani currently the front runner for the Republican presidential nomination? The answer is September 11th.

Now, Democracy for America’s friends at Brave New Films have created a hard-hitting video revealing The REAL Rudy. Check it out:

http://www.TheRealRudy.org

On September 11, the media chose to spotlight Rudy above everyone else, but not for his mistakes leading up to the attacks. There was no mention of faulty radios first responders had to use because Rudy had spent the money specifically allocated for fixing them on something else. No questions asked about why Rudy hadn’t properly protected the World Trade Center after the first bombing attack a few years earlier.

And perhaps the biggest mistake left unspoken was the real reason he ran around on the ground that day for everyone to see; Rudy located his strategic command center inside the World Trade Center.

What would’ve been different had that command center been operational?

The death toll for firefighters probably would have been cut in half. A lot of guys wouldn’t have been heading into the building or up the stairs; they would have been heading out” answers New York City Firefighter, Andy Ansbro. “Guys in the north tower would have gotten that message.”

Our friends at Brave New Films have put together an excellent video detailing Rudy’s command center mistakes. Watch it now. Then sit down with your Republican brother-in-law and ask him to watch it with you:

http://www.TheRealRudy.org

This is only the beginning for The REAL Rudy campaign. Brave New Films has at least three more videos planned to fully expose Giuliani’s numerous mistakes on, before and after 9/11. Rudy’s campaign spokesman, Mike McKeon had this to say about the video:

“It’s unfortunate that a conspiracy theorist so disconnected from reality would launch a politically motivated hit video?”¹

By “unfortunate”, I’m pretty sure he meant “unfortunate for Rudy”. You’ll understand why once you’ve seen the video. Afterwards, don’t forget to spread the word. America needs to know the REAL Rudy.

http://www.TheRealRudy.org

Thank you for everything you do.

Charles Chamberlain
Political Director

I guess I need not have included the entire email but context is always better if possible. What’s interesting is this line,

sit down with your Republican brother-in-law and ask him to watch it with you

I’ve often been critical of MoveOn.org, DFA and other political communities that identify as progressives because they often exclude or take no pains to overcome the societal inertia of political ethnic segregation. What am I talking about? If you are black and reading this, ask yourself, how many brother-in-laws do you have that are Republican? How many Republicans are you close to, period? This email, like most correspondence and policy emanating from these types of groups, was meant for white readers.

Either DFA knows it doesn’t have any black participants, doesn’t care that its correspondence isn’t appropriate or is unaware that it is. I’m sure this isn’t the aim of Demcracy for America, to alienate the few black participants that it has. However good intentions only go so far when functionally DFA’s actions undermine their own stated organizational goals, to build a broad progressive movement across the US as well as undermine progressivism generally by creating a divided structures. I don’t agree with DFAs political strategy generally but it doesn’t seem to be too much to ask for them to simply have political aware communication to their constituency.

I have attended DFA meetings here in the A and its difficult enough being in these meetings as the attendees tend to be center-right or at best centrists with an unsophisticated political analysis (to be kind). I am left everytime feeling as if I’m not supposed to be here. I’m sure other non-whites have and do feel similarly in such meetings across the country. So when I peek into my inbox and find that I can’t even escape the same vapid political sensibilities even there…..?

What is a black leftist to do in Atlanta?

Apple iPhone Unlocked; Apple Stocks Will Move Up

Posted in Technology, Uncategorized on August 26, 2007 by marcg

Websites are bemoaning the fate of Apple now that its $600 iPhone has been unlocked. When you purchase an iPhone (for $500 or $600) you have to get a phone plan with AT&T. Now that the proprietary code locking the phone has been figured out, you can go and find your own network provider. Nobody likes service plan deals where you don’t have choice so this kind of deal makes any product less popular. Now that consumers have a way around the deal, the phone’s popularity will only increase.

How is this bad for Apple?

Call me cynical, but if I were Apple, the best of both worlds for me would be if I could have the AT&T deal for the robots who won’t bother to figure out a way to find an unlocked phone as well have the unlocking capability out there so that thinking people who don’t want to become slaves to AT&T will also pick up the iPhone.

I can’t think of any way this turns into a loser for Apple (although it is oddly being touted as such here). Even the Financial Times takes note that the iPhone has been hacked. Annoyingly, the FT’s coverage of the happening only focuses on the 17 year old who hardware hacked it by soldering, not on the much, much, much more accessible software solutions that regular people will want. They don’t discuss that. Not that they will be able to prevent the info from getting out there. And what regular folks read the Financial Times anyway?

If anyone knows how Apple loses on this deal, please enlighten me. This Robin Hood work seems as if it will have the effect of boosting iPhone sales and Apple’s stock price. All the while being characterized as something subversive which of course attracts even more buyers thinking they are getting away with something while dropping $600 into Apple’s collection plate for a brick-shaped cell phone with a battery that lasts no time at all. Suckas.

2007 First Time Ever Wimbledon Pays Out Equal Prize Money To Male and Female Winners

Posted in Uncategorized on July 7, 2007 by marcg

Making it all the more sweeter that Venus Williams is the woman that will be claiming it.  1.4 million dollars of it.  Sweeter in the memetic sense.  No one person actually needs 1.4 million dollars.  No less Venus who has who knows how many more millions underneath this addition.

What is interesting is the little attention the fact that Wimbledon hasn’t paid out equal money to men and women up until this point.  The 123 year old tournament up until this year, has more favorably compensated the boring men’s game.  Venus Williams, a big advocate of equal pay, has been a significant factor in bringing parity to the winner’s circle with her exciting play.  Anyone that follows Wimbledon or tennis generally knows that the women’s  game is as exciting if not more exciting than the men’s.  Making it all the more ridiculous for their to have not been parity in pay to begin with.

I do wonder why the payraise isn’t bigger news than it has been.  Venus’ win for that matter, hasn’t been blasted out as one might have thought it would be.  Actually, that isn’t much of a surprise.  The Williams sisters, who are black, rarely get equal media exposure.  Try to imagine a pair of white sisters with a rags to riches story like the Williams sisters.  Having won ever Wimbledon since 1999 with the exception of two years, that they are the dominant force in women’s tennis is obvious.  Imagine the endless media circus that would exist around two white siblings, as physically attractive and competitively dominant as this duo has been.  You wouldn’t be able to escape constant corporate endorsement, advertisement and celeb news about them.  Seems the only reason this doesn’t exist is because they are black.  And try to imagine if one of them got hooked on crack like white teen tennis idol Jennifer Capriati did.  Do you think they would even be allowed to come back as she was?  If you do, I’d love to hear you make the argument.  Race is clearly a major factor in the career and blatant undercelebration of the championship Williams duo.

Again, making it all the sweeter that Venus is taking home the Wimbledon title for the fourth time.  Do your thang, girl.

Study Indicates Whites Largely Ignorant of Black Life In The US

Posted in Racism, Social/Culture, US Politics, Uncategorized on June 29, 2007 by marcg

An Ohio State study reveals that white people would require 1 million dollars to give up television for the rest of their lives while deeming being black for the remainder of life worthy of 10 thousand dollars in compensation. The study reveals the intense and quite deep ignorance and devaluation of the black experience in the US.

Almost as interesting (and disturbing) are the caustic remarks found on Alternet.org from progressive whites in response to the article. The banter is almost as racist and acidic as one might find on FreeRepublic or Stormfront. And of course the anonymity of the web demands the consideration that some of the posters might very well be Freepers and Stormfronters. But not most of them. And the comments to this article are consistent with the racist retort to most articles discussing race on Alternet.

From the article,

As part of the studies, whites of different ages and geographic regions were asked how much they deserved to be paid for living the rest of their lives as an African American.

Respondents generally requested less than $10,000 to become black. However, they said they’d have to be paid $1 million to give up television for the rest of their lives.

To juxtapose that finding the researchers asked another set of questions.

In another scenario, the references “white” and “America” were omitted, and participants were asked to select between being born a minority or majority in a fictional country called, “Atria.” They were warned of the disadvantages that the minority group faced — the same disparities faced by black Americans — and they said they should be paid an average of $1 million to be born a minority.

This indicates to me a white psychological schism worthy of much discussion. The resistance to reparations and honest identification with the realities of blacks in the United States seems to be related to specifically black people and not to the situation of injustice and the concept of reparations. This can only lead to an analysis of the news media, the educational institutions and the government as a whole as an institution, some of the biggest things that influence white thought and mental/psychological framework. Hopefully there will be much more discussion (I’m sure there will be derision) about this study and what it represents.

Britian, Like The U.S. Hates Democracy

Posted in Global Politics, Politics, Social/Culture, Uncategorized on June 28, 2007 by marcg

The end of Tony Blair’s run as Prime Minister of England is instructive as his replacement, Tony Blair’s right hand man, simply steps in and begins his term. Is it not ironic that in England and in the United States, where the press, academia and white society generally, never stops talking of democracy, that leaders come all from one tiny group of people. And those leaders come and go with very little fanfare relative to the power they wield once in office. Makes me take a second look at the folks who talk about chemicals in the water to make us stupid and passive. I mean, where is the outrage about all of the horrible things going on?
Anybody noticed there is a war against a bunch of poor people going on?
Gordon Brown has assumed his role of prime minster accompanied only by hand-clapping in the press. And the lead-up to the changeover only saw debate as to whether or not Blair would agree to step down. Agree!(?)

This is the political process of supposedly one of the leading democratic states. It’s a complete joke. And not even a funny one. The United States is worse, of course. Putting everyone through the trouble of picking this or that candidate from this or that sector of the one big party. And then, when it’s all said and done, picking the two candidates who were the media-appointed frontrunners from the (literally) very first day. That’s democracy in the United States. A big-and very predictable-psychological operation with the obvious design of convincing the political sector of the population that they are actually doing something besides working for their own demise.

It is quite a successful gig so far for the US ruling class. And for the UK gang as well, I guess. The MSM has nothing but congratulations and applause for the coronation of Gordon Brown. And now look. The day Tony Blair leaves, he becomes the fourth man of the US-UK-Israel-Palestine peace brigade. Obviously the folks that Blair works for–the ones that invisibly work to get him simply appointed to the most important positions in the world–could choose someone else that would whore for them in an equally effective, subservient and bellicose manner.

But they don’t.

And that’s one way of recognizing the psychological nature that they operate in. They keep the same faces around for different high profile jobs because they run these democracies like producers create a soap opera. Familiar characters. Easily understandable plot developments. Predictable outcomes that make the target demographic react favorably. First Blair will be the Middle East Peace Envoy. Then I’m sure he’ll rotate into the next needed character for the next high profile act of the show.

This way in which ruling class power brokers operate seems so very transparent that it almost makes you crazy that people stand for it at all.

Continued Obama Wedge Tactics; Racist Republicans Claim To Love Him

Posted in Uncategorized on May 8, 2007 by marcg

From the Sunday Times

Republicans Defect to the Obama camp

This is a tried and true if not tired, tactic.  In combination with other tactics, or a barrage of this singular tactic, it can yield results.  Sandy Baxter of the Sunday Times reports to us that Barak Obama is seen, by some formerly steadfast Republicans, as a good option in the coming election.  First of all, it’s not even true.  And well-intentioned or not, Baxter is helping the Republicans’ psychological attack intended to scatter support among those who might actually make him the first black candidate to run for president under the Democratic Party.  If Obama is seen as becoming the candidate of defecting Republicans, progressive Democrats support will weaken.

Clinton is, of course, the actual candidate that will be supported by any defecting Republicans that don’t vote for whatever Libertarian shows up on the ticket.  But Obama is targeted in the ongoing attempt to move the entire political debate further and further toward the Right Wing.  The attack all Democrats.  But the most vicious attacks are reserved for those appearing to represent the progressive factions as this marginalizes them and gives more power to the centrists, thus giving more power to the Right.

Gravel is more of the same strategy, different tactic.

From An Angry Soldier

I’m having the worst damn week of my whole damn life so I’m going to write this while I’m pissed off enough to do it right.

I am SICK of all this bullshit people are writing about the Iraq war. I am abso-fucking-lutely sick to death of it. What the fuck do most of you know about it? You watch it on TV and read the commentaries in the newspaper or Newsweek or whatever god damn yuppie news rag you subscribe to and think you’re all such fucking experts that you can scream at each other like five year old about whether you’re right or not. Let me tell you something: unless you’ve been there, you don’t know a god damn thing about it. It you haven’t been shot at in that fucking hell hole, SHUT THE FUCK UP!

How do I dare say this to you moronic war supporters who are “Supporting our Troops” and waving the flag and all that happy horse shit? I’ll tell you why. I’m a Marine and I served my tour in Iraq. My husband, also a Marine, served several. I left the service six months ago because I got pregnant while he was home on leave and three days ago I get a visit from two men in uniform who hand me a letter and tell me my husband died in that fucking festering sand-pit. He should have been home a month ago but they extended his tour and now he’s coming home in a box.

You fuckers and that god-damn lying sack of shit they call a president are the reason my husband will never see his baby and my kid will never meet his dad.

And you know what the most fucked up thing about this Iraq shit is? They don’t want us there. They’re not happy we came and they want us out NOW. We fucked up their lives even worse than they already were and they’re pissed off. We didn’t help them and we’re not helping them now. That’s what our soldiers are dying for.

Oh while I’m good and worked up, the government doesn’t even have the decency to help out the soldiers whos lives they ruined. If you really believe the military and the government had no idea the veterans’ hospitals were so fucked up, you are a god-damn retard. They don’t care about us. We’re disposable. We’re numbers on a page and they’d rather forget we exist so they don’t have to be reminded about the families and lives they ruined while they’re sipping their cocktails at another fund raiser dinner. If they were really concerned about supporting the troops, they’d bring them home so their families wouldn’t have to cry at a graveside and explain to their children why mommy or daddy isn’t coming home. Because you can’t explain it. We’re not fighting for our country, we’re not fighting for the good of Iraq’s people, we’re fighting for Bush’s personal agenda. Patriotism my ass. You know what? My dad served in Vietnam and NOTHING HAS CHANGED.

So I’m pissed. I’m beyond pissed. And I’m going to go to my husband funeral and recieve that flag and hang it up on the wall for my baby to see when he’s older. But I’m not going to tell him that his father died for the stupidty of the American government. I’m going to tell him that his father was a hero and the best man I ever met and that he loved his country enough to die for it, because that’s all true and nothing will be solved by telling my son that his father was sent to die by people who didn’t care about him at all.

Fuck you, war supporters, George W. Bush, and all the god damn mother fuckers who made the war possible. I hope you burn in hell.

Bill O’Reilly will, of course, claim that Dennis Kucinich or Al Sharpton wrote it.  Those with the little yellow ribbon would do well to read the whole thing.
